About Me

Good Day All!

I want to thank you for your time in stopping by my new blog. I used to blog a lot, and thought it's time to document the thrills, stresses, and experiences of studying Medicine abroad. Gdansk, Poland to be exact.

I am a mature student who was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. I have lived at the same address just outside Toronto, Ontario since I was 1 year of age. I decided to study medicine when I was extremely young. Since the age of 10 I knew I wanted to be a doctor, (back then a neurosurgeon specifically), and help others in their time of crisis.

I studied all the sciences throughout high school, and focused extra curricular activities and job experiences to be related to engaging in the study of medicine. I participated in the high school band, as well as a part of the lacrosse team, track and field team, and was a part of their religious excursion leader team. This helped to diversify my knowledge and experience.

I did a cooperative education placement in Radiology of my local hospital. This is where I developed an act for diagnostic imaging and angio-interventional procedures. This is an area of study I would like to explore. Through this placement, I also became friends and frequented the Emergency Room. I know a lot of the physicians and that is also a study interest for me.

After high school I stayed local and completed an undergraduate degree, concurrent with education degree in Chemistry and Mathematics. Teaching high school would be a pleasure but I prefer the upper years, or post secondary. In my later years of study I worked as a laboratory teaching assistant, and completed some research projects through grants.

At the completion of my B.Sc/B.Ed degrees, I returned for my Master's degree in Organic Chemistry. I did research specifically with water quality and ortho-phosphate groups. I graduated with honours, and that is when I decided to begin my medical degree.

I could not go in the year I graduated, as my brother was getting married, and so I delayed a year of application. Through the year, I taught in post-secondary as a first year Chemistry Lecturer. During the year, I really developed a sense of what I wanted to get out of my medical study. One of the priorities on the list was to travel. I never got that experience of traveling for studies, and therefore I picked a European school. I chose Gdansk based on their great reviews through the internet from non affiliated sites, the average matching rates of Canadians who return for residency in Canada, and for their culture and climate.

Their culture is very heavily based on Roman Catholicism (my religion as well), so their civilization is very similar to the attributes and morals of the Canadian society. Their climate is very similar to the Canadian climate (at least where I live) as well. This helps to reduce some of the culture shock associated with travelling and living abroad.

I have officially accepted my admission in the Medicine program, studying at the Medical University of Gdansk. Orientation begins on September 23, and lectures begin September 30.

This is the adventure my life is awaiting.

Trevor
