I have so much to fill in now that I have internet access!!!
Sept 15 - I left Toronto YYZ at 22:20. Nothing to spectacular on the flight. Landed 7 hours later in Warsaw with no complications.
Sept 16 - 2 hour lay over at Warsaw to board flight to Gdansk. Beautiful city from what I saw from my window seat. (How I love window seats!!)
Arrived in Gdansk airport. Let me tell you this, completely different than landing in Toronto. Maybe because it was an inter-country flight, no security check or anything. Just grab baggage and go meet my shuttle driver.
Shuttle driver was awaiting my arrival. Had no problems finding the driver. He didn't speak much English, but another guy with him spoke some.
Took about 20 minutes to arrive at my residence. Check in was smooth, even without speaking Polish and the clerk not knowing English. Got my room key, and showed to my room.
Wow, when they say bed and room supplied, that is what they mean (see attached photos). I got settled in and made my bed. Tried to plug in the fridge and other stuff, only to find out there is no power in the room for some reason. (Found out next day breaker blew).
With no internet, no knowledge of Polish, and no one around speaking English, I set out to attempt to find some food! (it's now 18:30 and I'm starving!)
After walking along the main street (Aleja Zwycięstwa) for about 1.5km, I come to the only thing that's selling food. A gas station!!
I manage to purchase a pepperoni pizza item similar to half a loaf of bread. And a Fanta (since I'm in Europe and the real Fanta is better than that in Canada). It costs PLN 11.38, but I don't bother thinking about the price and just pay it. As I'm walking home it starts to spit, and makes me wonder why I never packed an umbrella. Shopping List!!
I get back, enjoy my food, and get ready for bed as I am exhausted. Tomorrow I meet with the dormitory manager and will hopefully fix the power and internet issues.
