Sept 17 - Woke up and wanted lunch, went and found a quaint little delicatessen (delikatesy) around the corner from the dormitories (500 m). A lot closer then the gas station, and better options for lunches and dinners.
Tried to meet with the manager, but he was gone to the Rector's office until 14:00. I still did not have any internet in my room, so I ended up just eating lunch and then napping until around 14:00. Spoke with the manager, they require MAC address to access you onto the internet. It will take a day and then should have no problem. He told me of a wifi spot across the parking lot though in the mean time.
I went and planned an adventure for the 18th! I was going to go shopping. I had a list of items I needed, and thought that the shopping centre would be the perfect day trip.
I went across to the building to access their wifi and planned how to take the tram to the Galeria bałtycka, a large shopping centre. It's only 6 stops down the tram, and its PLN 3 to use the tram one way, so why not!
The rest of the day consisted of going back to the deli and buying stuff for dinner, and calling it an early night because I would be traveling tomorrow.
Sept 18 - Woke up early, just to get ready to go shopping! I had a list, which main thing was a towel. Oh and sandals (which I forgot)!!
I found the ticket machine easily enough. You can use it in English as well. That helped out a lot!!
Took the tram to the galeria. This was as easy as it sounds. Got on, counted 6 stops, and then they announced the stop! Bang, made it! I walk into the mall. It is HUGE!!! (wish I took photos!) Comparable to the Eaton's Centre, or Yorkdale Mall for those in Toronto.
Well, I go walking, level by level, not missing looking into one of their 200 stores!! And I cant find a store that sells a towel! A huge shopping centre, and its mostly clothing stores and that's it!! I was so upset. But T-Mobile is in it (as well as Play and Orange, but I think T-Mobile has better service and pre paid plans).
I do my shopping in their only 'department' like store, similar to loblaws that sells household items as well. I bought some utensils and plates and cups. Hangers for my suits and dress pants and dress shirts. And then I decide to go to talk to T-Mobile.
Without knowing Polish, I manage to browse their prepaid cards and using google translate (thanks to T-Mobile internet) understand which card I read about online and I want to buy (heyah na kartę, dzień bez limitu). I go to speak to the pani at the counter (pani = female in Polish! Yes i'm catching on!) We exchange some words to make this work, and we get each others point across. We go to put the new card in, only to find out my phone is Sim locked to BELL!!! Piss off.
I take the card anyways and head home on the tram, getting ready to call and rip Bell a new hole somewhere. I specifically asked before buying the phone outright, if the phone is sim locked (as the previous one I bought was not) and they assured me that it was not.
I get back to my room and call their international toll free number only to find out its an additional $50.00 charge by credit card to unlock my phone. Oh, it also has to be submitted to the "back office" and will take 24 - 72 hours to process your request! Oh well, gotta do it!
Either than that, just been relaxing and hanging all my clothes up!
Until tomorrow,|
